Welcome to elmariestories, a blog featuring all my creative endeavours whilst also being an open dialogue about my personal experiences, be it on the craft of writing or reading.
My love of writing came quite late in life, around the age of 18 which is a fact that I’ve found very embarrassing until recently. After all, how could I have the audacity to say that my passion was to become an author, when on the surface it just sounded like a phase, something I’d sooner or later give up on?
I loved reading and I’d known for a long time that I wanted to do a degree in literature, but as for writing…truth be told, I didn’t think I was good enough. It really was such a fresh passion, how could I even consider trying to make a career out of it?
Eventually I decided to sign up for an Open University course called ‘Start Writing Fiction’, which amazingly managed to open my eyes to my true potential as a writer. The seed was there, I had the talent, I just had to nurture it. I couldn’t deny how much writing was becoming a need for me.
I started my YA fantasy novel in 2015 and applied to take English Literature and Creative Writing at University within the same week. It’s now the end of Summer 2017, my book is in it’s second draft (I’ve also planned the three sequels).
Over the past couple of years my understanding of what it takes to be a writer has massively developed, and so has my passion for writing. Being a writer is a very broad title. It covers anything from fiction, travel writing, journalism, poetry and so much more. These are all fields that I try to dabble in, but not always successfully – I’m still learning!
As a result, this blog is going to become my own personal writing/reading journey which I’m very excited to share with you, my lovely readers. I hope that it’s as fulfilling as I imagine it to be.
Bye for now and Bon Voyage!
